PlateScan

PlateScan and FlueScan are Manifold’s two camera-assisted capture tools: PlateScan reads an appliance data plate and FlueScan reads a flue gas analyser screen. Both only ever suggest data; the engineer confirms every field before anything is written to the record.

Troubleshooting

  • OCR misreads a value: correct it on the confirm screen before saving.
  • Duplicate appliance suggested: trust the match when serial or GC number agree; create new only when they genuinely differ.
  • Glare or blur: re-capture with a steadier frame and better lighting.

Capture Standard

A strong check captures defensible evidence without turning every visit into slow data entry. The engineer’s judgement is the source of truth; the camera assists and the app records.

  • Confirm every PlateScan and FlueScan suggestion before it is written; OCR is a draft, not an authority.
  • Capture readings against the correct appliance using the location label.
  • Record defects with the right category and a clear remedial note while on site.
  • Capture required photos as concrete proof, not generic snaps.
  • Capture engineer and tenant signatures last, because they freeze into the immutable record.

Field Reliability

Field work happens in basements, plant rooms, and properties with poor signal. The capture flow is built to keep working when the network does not.

Troubleshooting

  • If signal drops mid-check, keep working; drafts persist locally and sync on reconnect.
  • If photos sit pending, keep the app open on a stable connection so the queue can retry.
  • If a draft reappears after submitting, the app is protecting you: it keeps the draft until result and photos both confirm.
  • Pilot on real hardware before a field day; simulators prove layout, not camera, GPS, or field network behaviour.
