Mobile Check Capture

Mobile check capture records a full gas safety check on a phone, readings, defects, photos and signatures, even offline.

Mobile pilot checklist

A field pilot is ready when sign-in, camera assist, offline drafts, photo retry, and the review handoff all work.

29% pilot-ready

Test on real hardware. Simulators prove layout, but not camera, GPS, or field-network behaviour.

Capture a full check on a phone, even offline

My Checks walks an engineer through each appliance (readings, defects, photos, and signatures) and keeps working when the signal does not.

What you see

  • The assigned check with each appliance to work through.
  • Per-appliance reading fields and a defect capture with severity.
  • Required photos plus PlateScan and FlueScan assist.

How to use it

  • Confirm every PlateScan and FlueScan suggestion before saving.
  • Capture readings against the correct appliance using its location label.
  • Record defects with the right category while on site.
  • Capture signatures last; they freeze into the immutable record.

Decision guide

No signal in a plant roomKeep working; the draft persists locally.Data and photos sync on reconnect.
A reading is borderlineUse FlueScan to confirm CO and CO₂ from the analyser. The captured value matches the analyser.
An appliance is dangerousRecord an Immediately Dangerous defect and the action taken. The record and any warning notice agree.

Troubleshooting path

  1. 1If photos sit pending, keep the app open on a stable connection to retry.
  2. 2If the check will not submit, complete required results, signatures, and photos.
  3. 3If a draft reappears after submitting, the app is protecting it until uploads confirm.

Capture Functions

  • Open assigned checks from My Checks and work through each appliance.
  • Capture per-appliance readings: CO ppm, CO₂ ratio, operating pressure, heat input, flue flow, spillage test, and visual condition.
  • Record defects and categorise them as At Risk, Immediately Dangerous, or Not to Current Standards.
  • Capture required photos, plus PlateScan and FlueScan assist for data plates and analyser readings.
  • Record the parts and materials used, picked from van stock or captured with PartScan and CodeScan; see Parts, Van Stock, PartScan, and CodeScan.
  • Draft structured notes and customer explanations with Manifold Assist; every draft is read and edited by you before it is used.
  • Capture engineer and tenant signatures, which freeze into the immutable record.

Offline and PWA Behaviour

  • My Checks is an installable PWA with a service worker for offline operation.
  • Drafts persist locally and a photo queue retries pending uploads after reconnect.
  • Work continues without signal; data syncs when the connection returns.
  • Drafts are preserved until the submission and all photo uploads succeed.

Troubleshooting

  • Photos stuck pending: keep the app open on a stable connection so the queue can retry.
  • Check will not submit: complete required appliance results, signatures, and any required photos.
  • Readings look attached to the wrong appliance: check the appliance label before submitting.
  • Draft reappears after submitting: the app keeps the draft until result and photo upload both confirm.

Mobile Permissions Reference

  • Camera: required for check photos and for PlateScan and FlueScan capture.
  • Notifications: required for assignment and update alerts where enabled.
  • Storage: the app keeps drafts and a photo queue locally for offline work.
  • Install: add My Checks to the home screen to run it as a full-screen PWA.

Capture Standard

A strong check captures defensible evidence without turning every visit into slow data entry. The engineer’s judgement is the source of truth; the camera assists and the app records.

  • Confirm every PlateScan and FlueScan suggestion before it is written; OCR is a draft, not an authority.
  • Capture readings against the correct appliance using the location label.
  • Record defects with the right category and a clear remedial note while on site.
  • Capture required photos as concrete proof, not generic snaps.
  • Capture engineer and tenant signatures last, because they freeze into the immutable record.

Field Reliability

Field work happens in basements, plant rooms, and properties with poor signal. The capture flow is built to keep working when the network does not.

Troubleshooting

  • If signal drops mid-check, keep working; drafts persist locally and sync on reconnect.
  • If photos sit pending, keep the app open on a stable connection so the queue can retry.
  • If a draft reappears after submitting, the app is protecting you: it keeps the draft until result and photos both confirm.
  • Pilot on real hardware before a field day; simulators prove layout, not camera, GPS, or field network behaviour.
