Capture Functions

• Open assigned checks from Today’s run, the engineer home screen, and work through each appliance.
• Record each appliance’s three results (safety devices, ventilation, flue or chimney), whether it is safe to use and whether a defect was identified. Readings and tests (CO ppm, CO₂ ratio, operating pressure, heat input, flue flow, spillage test, visual condition) sit behind a Readings & tests disclosure.
• Record defects and categorise them as At Risk, Immediately Dangerous, Not to Current Standards, or Other.
• Add photos as evidence (a warning, not a block, if none are attached), plus PlateScan and FlueScan assist for data plates and analyser readings.
• Record the parts and materials used, picked from van stock or captured with PartScan and CodeScan; see Parts, Van Stock, PartScan, and CodeScan.
• Draft structured notes and customer explanations with Manifold Assist; every draft is read and edited by you before it is used.
• Capture the engineer signature, which is required to submit, and the tenant signature, which is optional; both freeze into the immutable record.

The Check Page

The check page is built around the fields a CP12 needs, with everything optional folded away, so the visible controls stay within a small budget and the required inputs form the spine of the page.

• Today’s run shows one Next up card with Start job (or View check once submitted) and Navigate, then Later today and Coming up, an Overdue chip, and a single Plan link to Week, Route and Prep.
• A check reads as three stops, Arrive, Appliances and Sign off, with a sticky jump bar and a live done-of-total count that updates as fields are set.
• Job checklist, Certificate preview, Error code & manuals, Parts and materials, Customer messages and Senior review each collapse to a single line until you open them.
• Submit stays tappable. If something is missing it names it in plain language, such as Confirm whether access was gained, Record a result for every appliance or set the overall result to Unable to complete, or Capture your signature before submitting, and scrolls to it.
• On a repeat visit a Last visit line shows the date and result, last year’s numbers appear beside each appliance, and one tap copies them into any empty readings. Pass or fail results are never copied.
• Save draft and Submit check are the two actions at the bottom.

Tell the Tenant You Are On Your Way

• The Quote & customer drafts panel on a check drafts a quote, a customer explanation and an On-my-way message from the check’s evidence; nothing is sent automatically.
• Set the ETA wording (for example in 30 minutes) and tap Send ETA email to email the tenant. The property needs a tenant email and the phone needs a connection.
• Every message sent from the job appears in the Message log with its status. Email is the only channel today.

Offline and PWA Behaviour

• The engineer app is an installable PWA with a service worker for offline operation. Android engineers can also install the native Manifold app; see Install Manifold on a Phone.
• Drafts persist locally and a photo queue retries pending uploads after reconnect.
• Work continues without signal; data syncs when the connection returns.
• Drafts are kept on the device until the submission is accepted; photos wait in their own queue and keep retrying after that.
• Banners tell you what is happening: You’re offline, Restored your unsaved changes, Offline check synced, and an alert if a queued submit is rejected when it syncs.

Mobile Permissions Reference

• Camera: required for check photos and for PlateScan and FlueScan capture.
• Notifications: only the native Manifold app receives assignment and update alerts; the browser PWA does not ask for notification permission.
• Storage: the app keeps drafts and a photo queue locally for offline work.
• Install: open /install on the phone for the exact home-screen steps for iPhone (Safari), Android and desktop; the install banner also appears after your first completed check. Android engineers can download the full native app from the same page.

Capture Standard

A strong check captures defensible evidence without turning every visit into slow data entry. The engineer’s judgement is the source of truth; the camera assists and the app records.

• Confirm every PlateScan and FlueScan suggestion before it is written; OCR is a draft, not an authority.
• Capture readings against the correct appliance using the location label.
• Record defects with the right category and a clear remedial note while on site.
• Capture required photos as concrete proof, not generic snaps.
• Capture the engineer signature last (the tenant signature is optional), because signatures freeze into the immutable record.

Field Reliability

Field work happens in basements, plant rooms, and properties with poor signal. The capture flow is built to keep working when the network does not.
